Life at Weel: Will’s Journey from Maidenhead to Sydney

We’re growing fast and always on the lookout for top talent. To give you an inside look at life at Weel and our hiring process, we sat down with our newest recruit, Will — a Sales Account Executive — to hear about his experience firsthand.
A big move & a new chapter
In early 2024, Will made a bold decision: he left his small hometown of Maidenhead, England, to chase a lifelong dream — relocating to Australia.
He spent his first few months exploring, travelling through Melbourne, and road-tripping in a campervan from Cairns to Sydney. Then, in November, he started an exciting new chapter in our sales team, diving headfirst into the world of accounting technology.
With three years of experience selling SEO software in London but no prior fintech background, Will wasn’t sure what to expect. But one thing about Weel immediately stood out to him:
“The speed of the hiring process. So many companies take weeks—sometimes months—to get back to you after you apply. With Weel, I applied, and within days, the Talent team reached out to schedule an initial chat. Now that I’m in the role, I’ve realised that Weel’s speed is just part of how we operate.”
And interviewing while travelling? No problem.
“Since I was taking interviews on the road (literally), I was nervous it would be an issue. Luckily, it wasn’t. I had the flexibility I needed. From skydiving in the morning to interviews in the afternoon, it was a very different vibe from interviewing in London. Travelling didn’t mean I wasn’t serious about landing a role, and Weel could see that. It was a great sign of the kind of company I could potentially be joining.”

What to expect from the hiring process
Our interview process is consistent, ensuring candidates know what to expect at every stage:
- Talent team chat – A conversation about the role, company, salary, work arrangements, and location—no surprises later down the line.
- Hiring manager meeting – A deeper dive into your experience and approach to sales.
- Presentation stage – A chance to showcase your skills, usually through a sales pitch or a similar exercise.
- Values interview – A conversation about teamwork, adaptability, and working in a fast-moving company.
“Every stage felt like a two-way discussion, not an interrogation.”
Onboarding: the Weel way

In Will’s case, that was Cale Bulgin, our Director of Sales, who started as an AE himself and truly understands the challenges of the role. With extensive experience building top-performing teams, Cale provided hands-on guidance, helping Will refine his approach and master effective sales techniques, including Sandler methodology.
