Weelhouse Wire
Your monthly roundup from Weel HQ
Hi there,
Depending on what industry you’re in, you’ve either just closed out your biggest and busiest quarter, or you’re already deep into preparing for the end of year trade.
Either way, it’s landing against an interesting moment. Australia’s 10-year bond yield hit 5.40% on 15 September, its highest since May 2011, and the RBA is now odds-on to hike again this month.
Against that backdrop, here’s what’s inside this edition.
Inside this edition:
| ✦ |
Media watch: bond yields at a 15-year high, 19,400 scam sites taken down, and an $830M ASIC crackdown |
| ✦ |
Accounts Payable: now live end to end, invoice to paid |
| ✦ |
In the room: Nicolas Boucher on Claude and finance, live in Australia for the first time |
| ✦ |
Coming up: David Fortin’s Microsoft Copilot Masterclass, join the waitlist |
| ✦ |
Product updates: control that runs itself, so nothing depends on you remembering |
| ✦ |
Customer story: how Belvoir St Theatre gets 1.5 weeks back, every month |
| ✦ |
We’re a finalist: twice over at the Finder Innovation Awards 2026 |
Weel Media Watch: what we’re reading right now
We read a lot so you don’t have to. Here’s where that bond story actually started, plus everything else that moved markets, policy and finance teams this month.
Global bond sell-off pushes borrowing costs higher
| 1. |
The US 10-year Treasury yield hit 5.011% on 15 September, its highest level in years, as a global bond sell-off (rising energy prices, heavy AI-linked corporate debt issuance, mounting fiscal deficit concerns) spilled into France and Germany’s own yields too, and from there into Australia’s. (ABC News) |
| 2. |
The Federal Reserve raised rates 25 basis points to 3.75%–4% on 16 September, its first hike since 2023, a unanimous 12–0 decision aimed at getting inflation back to its 2% target. (Federal Reserve) |
| 3. |
The RBNZ raised its cash rate to 2.75% on 2 September, a second straight hike, with inflation still sitting at 4.1%. (RBNZ) |
| 4. |
Consumer sentiment dropped 5.2% to 84.4 as the ASX hit a six week low, and Westpac now backs a November RBA hike to 4.6%. (ABC News) |
| 5. |
Trimmed mean inflation held at 3.6% through July, keeping the RBA’s 29 September decision genuinely live, NAB calls a hike this month, ANZ, CommBank and Westpac call November. (Aussie) |
As agentic AI scales, so does fraud
| 6. |
Deloitte’s Q4 2025 CFO Signals Survey found 54% of CFOs now call agentic AI their top transformation priority for 2026, more than any other initiative. (Deloitte) |
| 7. |
19,400 scam sites were pulled down by ASIC this financial year, up 182%, as the regulator warns AI is powering fake investment sites and deepfake endorsements at scale. (ASIC, 26-195MR) |
Regulators are turning up the heat
| 8. |
Treasury’s Big Four audit reform push is gathering pace: a July options paper laid out 17 reform options, from capping partnerships at 400 people to forcing audit-only company structures ASIC can actually police. The Big Four and mid-tier firms broadly back giving ASIC more power, but are pushing back on mandatory audit rotation every 20 years, offering a decade-long tender requirement instead. (Australian Financial Review) |
| 9. |
A coordinated “liar loan” ring triggered an AUSTRAC warning to banks on 19 August, falsified income, employment and offshore-fund claims pushed fraudulent mortgages through several major lenders. (ABC News) |
| 10. |
ASIC secured a record $830 million in civil penalties across FY2025-26, plus $644 million returned to Australians, its biggest enforcement year yet. (ASIC, 26-162MR) |
Workforce & hiring
| 11. |
KPMG Australia is cutting 27 partners and ~360 staff, 5% of its workforce, after lost government contracts tied to an audit-leak whistleblower scandal and revenue sliding from $2.28 billion to $2.26 billion. (ABC News) |
Super had an eventful month
| 12. |
Slater and Gordon secured a $249 million in-principle settlement over Colonial First State and CBA cash-option interest rates on 25 August, the firm’s largest ever, with 500,000+ Australians potentially in line for a payout. (Slater and Gordon) |
| 13. |
One Nation’s proposal to let workers divert 3% of their super into take-home pay was rejected within a day by government and industry, branded “economically disastrous” by the peak super body ASFA. (Neos Kosmos) |

Nicolas Boucher, Global Claude and AI Coach and Expert: live in Australia for the first time
In partnership with Eftsure, we brought Nicolas Boucher, Global Claude and AI Coach and Expert, to Australia for the first time. Nicolas spent 15 years in finance before training finance professionals worldwide, including teams at KPMG, Chanel and Mercedes-Benz, and now has 1.3M+ people following his take on AI in finance.
Over 1,500 finance leaders registered to watch him share the stage with Weel’s own CFO and COO, Damon Hauenstein, and Mary Italiano, Head of Sales at Eftsure. A taste of what they covered:
| ✦ |
Nicolas built a five-year forecast live in Claude in under five minutes, then showed exactly which model to use for what. |
| ✦ |
Damon made the case for why this might be the best time in years to lead a finance function. |
| ✦ |
Mary showed what real-time, multi-layered fraud protection looks like when it’s built into the payment process from the start. |
That’s the short version. If you’re looking to level up how your team uses AI, the full 90 minutes is worth the watch, now available on demand.
Coming up next
David Fortin, CPA and Microsoft MVP, returns for the third time, back by popular demand, with a Microsoft Copilot Masterclass on 15 October, 11am AEDT. Join the waitlist to be first in line.

Customer story
How Belvoir St Theatre got 1.5 weeks back, every month
Two shared cards across the organisation, a month behind on paper statements, one person carrying the reconciliation. That was Belvoir before Weel.
“Weel has completely transformed how we do accounting. It’s saved us one and a half weeks of month end work every month, time we now put towards analysing our shows and their profitability, which wasn’t possible before Weel.” Ash Rathod, CFO, Belvoir St Theatre |
Since Weel, Belvoir’s finance team gets 1.5 weeks back every month, time they now spend analysing show profitability instead of paperwork. Receipts arrive within a day instead of being chased for weeks, now that everyone across the organisation has their own card instead of passing round two shared ones.
